Finance and Administration
Fourth Annual Employee Recognition Day
May 12, 2009
Finance
and Administration celebrated the service of staff
members at the Fourth Annual Employee
Recognition
Ceremony on May 12. Photos of the event, as well as the
division-wide Ice Cream Social on May 15, are shown below.

Senior
Vice President Tim Burgess told the 500 staff members in attendance
at Hodgson Hall that the most important part of the ceremony
was the opportunity for him to say a very public and heartfelt
thank you for the hard work they’ve done over the past
year. Despite budget challenges, Finance and Administration
employees continue to excel.
|
 |
Each
division head also offered a special word of thanks to their
staff members. Here, Holley Schramski shares her pride in the
work of the employees of the Controller’s Office.
|
 |
Employees
received awards for five-year service milestones. The Physical
Plant’s Ralph Johnson joked that Willie Kimbro was all
smiles because he had just retired a few weeks ago.
|
 |
Kimbro
was one of five employees receiving the pinnacle award presented
for years of service: a rocking chair for those celebrating
the 30-year mark. Here, Tim Burgess joins Kimbro and his fellow
honorees: (l. to r.) Kimbro, PPD Support Services; Mike Orr,
Grounds Maintenance; Robert McGinnis, Central Food Storage;
and Doug Evans, Custodial – South Campus.
|
 |
In
addition to service awards, merit awards were presented in
four categories. Finalists for the Customer Service Award were
Mike Chalker, Parking Services; Carolyn Dial, Departmental
Financial Systems; (Burgess); Glenda Owens, Contracts and Grants
(winner); and Paul Oesterle, Food Services.
|
 |
Finalists
for the Newcomer Award were Tysen deDufour, Parking Services;
Pete Golden, Security and Emergency Preparedness; (Burgess);
Brooks Oliver, Food Services (winner); and Paul Shadowens,
Campus Transit.
|
 |
The
Tough Dawg Award goes to a staff member who has endured extraordinarily
difficult workplace circumstances with grace and exemplary
performance. Finalists were Linwood Hill, Parking Services;
Kirti Leatham, Food Services; Linda Middleton, Directory Assistance;
and Kim Thomas, Services Department (winner); with Burgess.
|
 |
Finalists
for the 2009 Unsung Hero Award were (Burgess); Henry Green,
Food Services; Robert McCurley, Welding Shop (winner); Karen
Pitts, Bursar’s Office; and Vonnie Swain, Budget Office.
|
 |
Following
the ceremony, F&A staff members enjoyed refreshments and
conversation outside the Performing Arts Center.
|
 |
On
Friday, May 15, the entire division was invited to an Ice Cream
Social, with Tim Burgess (center in the chef’s hat) and
the senior team as servers.
|

By
the time the event opened, long lines had already formed on
Herty Field.

is serving up a bit of a mess, as J. Dorsey offers a friendly
word of advice.

“One
scoop or two?” asked a smiling Burgess.
|

Make-your-own
sundaes and cookies hit the spot on a hot, sunny day.

Pam
Ray of Contracts and Grants found a shady spot to enjoy her
ice cream and listen to the island sounds of the Tropical Breeze
band.
