Application and
employment procedures for new applicants
(Persons
not currently employed by UGA)
The Employment
Department is responsible for assessing the overall qualifications of
applicants for classified positions. Applicants meeting specified job
criteria are referred to an employing department for consideration for
employment in announced vacancies. We will exercise the highest level
of professional skill in evaluating your qualifications for employment.
However, the acceptance of your application and resume for referral
to a vacancy does not guarantee you an interview with the employing
unit, where the final employment decision is made.

Steps involved in applying
for a position with the University of Georgia
1. Review the
position vacancy list to determine jobs in which you are interested.
2. Take any
required pre-employment proficiency tests.
The Employment
Department does not screen individual applications and resumes for typing
test results; however, since hiring departments may use these typing
test results as an internal measure for vacancy competition, it is the
responsibility of the applicant to provide the Employment Department
with the results of any typing test taken. If the position in which
you are interested requires typing skills, you may visit the local branch
of the Department of Labor or visit a local temporary hiring agency
and complete your typing test.
3. Select desired
position(s) and complete the job application.
(You will create a user name and password
for yourself; please remember them for future use.)
To be considered an applicant at the University of Georgia, you must complete an online employment
application for a currently posted vacancy. These credentials will be
used by an employment counselor as the primary information source when
determining your qualifications for an identified vacancy. Be sure the
information you provide is complete and accurate. Be sure to include
specific software training and experience on the application or resume.
You may electronically attach a resume and cover letter if you desire.
Your application and resume will be available for six months after all
positions for which you applied are closed or filled. If any information
on your employment application or resume changes, please check to see
if your application is still available online and then update your information.
The position vacancy list is available on the Human
Resources position vacancies Web site.
4.
Applications are reviewed by an employment counselor.
An employment counselor will compare the specific requirements as presented
by the employing unit on the position announcement with the information
provided on your application and resume. If you meet the qualifications
for the position for which you are applying, your application and resume
will be referred for further consideration to the department where the
vacancy exists. If you do not meet the qualifications, your credentials
will not be referred.
5.
Applications are reviewed by the employing unit.
The department where the position is located will review the applications
and resumes accepted by the Employment Department. From the pool of
applicants provided, the employing unit will determine which applicants
will be contacted and/or interviewed for the position, based upon qualifications.
The final hiring decision will be made at the employing unit as they
identify the candidate who, in their judgment, is best qualified for
the position.
Note:
Vacancy announcements may have a time limit; check the list frequently.
Vacancies are listed with the Employment Department for a minimum of
five business days. After five days, if the job for which you applied
is still on the list, you may assume the employing unit has not yet
made a decision, and applications are still being referred. As an applicant,
you may log in using the MyJobs feature on
the position vacancies Web page. Using the userid and password you created
when applying for a position and filling out the application, you can
check the status of your application and the position(s) for which you
applied.
Note:
Don't give up if you don't hear from anyone.
The competition for jobs at the University is very keen. Because of
the large number of applications and resumes we receive, it is not possible
to respond personally to each inquiry. You may continue to apply for
vacant positions while awaiting a response from an earlier referral.
The list is updated daily to add new opportunities and remove jobs in
which applications are no longer being accepted.
Note:
Review eligibility for employment and benefits information.
All new employees will be paid by direct deposit to the banking institution
of their choice. The University will employ only United
States citizens and aliens authorized to work in the U.S. If you are
selected for employment, you will be required to provide documents which
establish your identity and employment eligibility, and complete a verification
form as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act. For information
purposes, you may wish to review a summary
of benefits available to regular faculty and staff members.
