Certificate
Program for Aspiring and New Managers
The
Certificate Program in the Foundations of Leadership and
Management was created
as a result of the Finance and Administration
Diversity Committee’s recommendation
for a leadership training program that
emphasizes the development of basic business
skills. This new program is designed to
provide the new or aspiring supervisor
in Finance and Administration with the
requisite tools and skills to be an effective
and successful supervisor at the University
of Georgia.
This program has a comprehensive
curriculum which expands the understanding
of the
role of supervisor. In addition to teaching
fundamentals such as reading a budget and
running effective meetings, the program
hones participants’ writing and presentation
skills, personal leadership development
and team-building skills. It also includes
a component on UGA’s history and
culture. A certificate is awarded to each
individual who completes the program.
The
program consists of an orientation, 10
classes and pre- and post-tests. Applicants
must have a high school diploma or GED,
little or no supervisory experience (six
months or less preferred), and be employed
by UGA for a minimum of six months. This
course is specifically designed to develop
basic business skills for new or aspiring
managers in Finance and Administration;
therefore, participation is limited to
employees within Finance and Administration. There
are currently no new sessions of this course
being offered beyond the spring 2008 session.
Opportunities for future F&A development
staff programs will continue to be investigated
and implemented.
Congratulations to the graduates of the
2007-2008 Foundations in Leadership and
Management Programs.
