Overview
The Georgia Department of Administrative Services (DOAS)
provides insurance to the University of Georgia (UGA)
and the University System of Georgia Board of Regents
through a self-insured program. Excess insurance is
purchased by DOAS to insure against catastrophic losses
and to protect the assets of the State of Georgia. The
types of insurance coverages are: Building and Content,
All Risk, Auto Physical Damage, General Liability, and
Fidelity Bond.
Risk
Management policies and procedures are established guidelines
to assist those who may have questions concerning risk,
liability, insurance coverage, or the processing of
claims. Final approval of all claims rests with the
State Department of Administrative Services. In addition,
all suits and legal actions become the responsibility
of the Board of Regents and the Department of Law.

The
State of Georgia Insurance and Loss Control
The State
Department of Administrative Service (DOAS) Risk Management
Services continues to make changes and improvements in the
way they conduct business as the state's in-house insurance
agency. Their rapid development of Loss Control and Safety
Programs serves as a key element in helping to control loss
exposure while mitigating claims. To that end, at various
times throughout the year, auto safety videos will be posted
to the DOAS website. Participation in these safety-training
videos is encouraged and highly recommended for all state
employees regardless of whether or not they drive a state
vehicle.
There
are currently two videos available for viewing - Auto Coverage
& Safety Training and Driving Do's & Don'ts. All UGA
employees should have viewed the Auto Coverage & Safety
Training video, originally posted July 2007. The newest video
posted to the DOAS website is Driving Do's and Don'ts.
The following
instructions are for viewing the two current videos:
1. Go
to www.doas.georgia.gov
2. Click on Risk Management Services.
3. Click on Auto Liability Program.
4. Click on Auto Liability Training Videos.
5. Select either high or low resolution for the video you
wish to view.
6. View the video and then click on register your participation.
Complete the participation form verifying you have seen the
video. When completing this form, please select "Regent,
Board of" as your Parent Agency or Organization and
under Division, type in UGA. Click on the "Submit"
button at the bottom of the page to complete the process.
UGA Risk
Management website has been modified to include links to the
DOAS website and verification reports. As new videos become
available, you will receive a notification via email from
the UGA Risk Management office.
These videos require Adobe Flash Player. If you do not have
this plugin, please download it from the Adobe
Website. If you do not use MS Windows, you may
choose a different operating system or browser listed on the
Adobe Website.
